While shopping at Costco last night, I came across these indoor/outdoor area rugs (6' x 9' for about $22). Last year the rug I used was less than clean after the wet feet from the pool and sprinklers. I decided to purchase 2 that seem better for the outdoors (mold resistant).
These rugs were made by ozite using eco-fi(TM), which is high-quality polyester fiber from 100% post-consumer recycled bottles. According to the packaging, each rug saves 50+ bottles from landfills.
These are not the fanciest looking rugs, however they are perfect for under my sitting areas in the back yard. They are mold, mildew and stain resistant and stand up to heavy use. To clean, you can either vacuum or shake out.
Just thought I'd share an eco-friendly product I picked up for myself. Take care!

Terrylynn, don't you just love products made from recycled materials? Seems like you are really doing your part getting them.
Terrylynn, sounds like something I could use in a couple of different locations. What colors did you see and what sizes? I googles Ozite Rugs and didn't get much but I did find a site about painting them to jazz them up a bit. Thanks for sharing.
Hope you don't mind. I had to go searching for this decorating tip and found

More research will be needed to check out the paints.
I find the idea interesting because of the really bad snowy/wet weather we get. This might be the trick for grabbing the wet before it damages the floors.
Will really have to think about the uses
These would be really good on concrete that is scorching hot, much easier on the feet!
Gary, thanks, you know it's an awareness thing, and once you are it's like when you are buying a car and see the model you like everywhere. Well green, sustainable alterantives are everwhere, affordable and for the choosing.
Ginger, I would love that site, they are bland...the two colors in our Costco were this grey and sort of an astro turf green, a little bright, so painting this one like a border or something would be great. They are very light weight and very affordable.
Virginia, of course not, thanks, was thinking about that myself. So going to check it out.
OH Ginger, nice sized 6 x 9 feet for $22.99??? !!! Good buy.
Cindy, exactly. That is where they are, near the pool where the kids come out and sit to dry off. Yup, think I'm going to like them.
Great idea Terrylynn and thanks for sharing it. It would be nice if you could paint them to add some interest.
Thanks Terrylynn for the details. I have painted Sisal rugs and enjoyed the difference it makes. I simply used acrylic craft paints (in large quanities) and the one currently on my screened porch held up well for a couple of years AND it was fun.

Ginger, thanks for the idea...and I'm going to do it. Glad I inspired you to write the post about it.
Kathy, read on...you can...I'm going to do just that.
HI Terrylynn, we are always looking for good looking outdoor rugs. Great marketing opportunity for someone to take up.
I found great decorator outdoor rugs, 6 x 9, at Walmart by Kolrani. Beautiful colours and patterns and only $38. Used them for staging purposes at the front entrance. They are light in weight so I placed two urns on either end to hold them down. We have had exceptionally high winds this spring and if I hadn't weighted the rug down it would have been half way to Toronto by now!
Ok, here is a new project for us after your bedroom is painted... ok, not for us, we design it and pick the paint, and /Bob can paint it... ;-) only kidding it would be fun to paint - not a border though some wave like pattern to go with the pool... I don't know but if would be fun to try... You know how I love design projects!!! Invite me over for wine and we can get started...
Excellent information - thank you. I will definitely recommend your site to my clients. Most people don't know how important the things that you highlighted are.
Thanks for helping spread the good word!

Hi - my friend and I bought these and they left a horrible dark green dust under them, just disgusting, like they were falling apart, what's creepy is that my son's MAGNET PIKCED UP THE DUST - what the heck??!! What in the dust from these would be magnetic? She threw hers away; I haven't yet but plan to! What the heck is in the dust? Thoughts? Thanks.
